What is rape?

Youth rape – a concealed phenomenon

By Grete Kvalheim (2005)

Rape is a complex crime which can have an emotional impact in a number of ways:

  • the feeling of losing control
  • the feeling of what is right or wrong
  • the feeling of shame and guilt
  • the freedom to reject approaches of a sexual nature
  • the freedom to decide on our own sexuality
Anyone who is forced to have sexual intercourse, either by violent means or by seriously fearing for her life and health, is considered to have been raped.
